[ugh. he is so not in the mood to talk right now. currently, he's resting on his couch, his communicator on his chest, and he's in the worst mood possibly.]
I'm bringing Frost. You sound like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
[ And Frost is incredibly therapeutic for that. Either way, Weiss hangs up and heads over there. She's only been once, but she made a point to remember where he lived. Aaand she politely knocks on his door with her right hand, her left holding Frost's leash as he sits right at her shoe. ]
[ Weiss opened the door, peeking in first before she stepped forward, lightly nudging Frost with her heel so he knew he could go. She was working on training him, but it was still iffy sometimes. Especially with Ruby around..
Still, seeing Adam like that, it was obvious she was missing something. ]
This might seem weird of me to ask, but are you okay?
[adam didn't even look over at her. he hadn't slept for days, his eyes were red and bags were underneath them. he blinked, sighed lightly before rubbing his eyes.
he wanted to tell her... even if he didn't know why he was putting his trust in her.]
...I've been better. [yup.] There have been... some changes lately, in a lot of ways.
[he didn't even want to bring it up again. it was so painful to think about, so... so stupid as well.
but then he felt frost jump up on him, and he just glanced down at the dog. he didn't do anything else, he simply stared at him for a few moments before actually petting him.]
...Do you recall how we... 'saved' ... Orihime? Well, that was incorrect. She wanted to stay there with him... she wanted to be around Lucifer... and the best part?
[he frowned further, feeling the anger coursing through him once more.]
..She told me he visited her in the hospital, when I told her not to go near that... dangerous man again. But she told me that he kissed her-... and... she... [he groaned.] She kissed him back.
[and that wasn't the worst part.] I was so mad... I was furious at the thought of ... going for that... that man. She completely ruined my trust, in what I told her- and my trust in herself completely. I stormed out... and had a talk with Blake about it too....
I just... don't know how to think right now, is all.
[ Weiss thinks about what he says for a moment. She knows nothing's as simple as black and white and she's not trying to solve his problems, nor does she think she can, but she can certainly come to her own conclusion about Orihime. Between the fact that she kept on believing in Adam, then now this with Lucifer.. ]
Considering he was very clearly taunting you about Orihime and apparently not even holding her hostage, he obviously just wanted to hurt you. Between that and his threats over the Guardian position, he's clearly not interested in changing or becoming a better person, which means that girl has no problem kissing a monster like Lucifer. The only real reasons for that are either she's stupid, she thinks she can "fix" everyone, or she's got a thing for danger and.. [ What's a good word that isn't 'bad guy' since she doesn't want to call Adam that.. ] Immoral behavior and you just weren't good enough for her once she saw Lucifer. None of those are good reasons; I wouldn't trust her either.
[adam listened silently to her, scratching frost's head in the meantime. he didn't say anything as she spoke, he just stared up at the ceiling and contemplated her words. he knew that lucifer was a monster.... but he figured, so was he. and he hated that man more than ever when he thought about how similar they were.]
...Then.. while talking about it with Blake... [he did like what weiss had been saying, but he just kept on with his story without acknowledging her words.]
In the heat of the moment- we both let it out that we had loved one another. [he paused, swallowing thickly and closing his eyes again.]
She used to love me, but I'm still in love with her. However... her being with someone else is better, much better, and I've accepted that- but everything at once it all just....
It just hurt. It had hurt- but I haven't felt anything for days now.
Weiss had been in the middle of undoing the leash from Frost when he admitted to his and Blake's.. situation. One that Weiss still hadn't quite even come to terms with. She didn't know much about Blake and Adam's life before Genessia, and she hadn't asked. She'd said that Blake's past was in the past, but lately it seemed like it just kept coming up. And now she was being told things she couldn't even ask Blake about, since she was sure she wasn't supposed to actually know them.
Adam was putting her in an odd position. She hadn't expected him to be open to her, at all, and now she was being told things like one of her closest friends and... Adam (she wasn't even sure what he was anymore without the White Fang-- they weren't enemies anymore, but they were hardly friends). ]
I'm sorry that you got hurt, by Orihime and by Blake, and I think you're right. Sun is good for Blake and he cares about her, a lot. So even if it hurt, I'm glad you made the right decision, but I don't think it's a good thing if you stop feeling altogether. Shutting yourself down isn't any good. Even if it's anger, it's better than nothing-- as long as you promise not to go around killing anyone.
[he didn't know what they were either, and he didn't really care anymore. he was being so overly open with her, he just... couldn't care enough to keep it in. he had been so mad at first, so full of hurt, now he can't feel anything.
this numb feeling... it was almost comforting, in a sick way.
adam glanced over at her when she talked about blake and sun.]
Sun is better than me, they're good together.
And killing humans...? I don't even have the energy to think about that- so of course I won't even go there. [he sighed lightly then went back to staring up at the ceiling.
...he did confess something, though.]
What... am I? I simply don't know anymore....
I... just don't belong here at all. Not once have I felt okay about being here.
[ Frost climbed up Adam's chest to nuzzle at his chin, as though he was picking up on the whole atmosphere right now and trying to help in his own way.
Weiss wondered if there was anything she could actually do without even really.. knowing him that well. She'd originally intended to ask him something entirely different, but it seemed out of place now. She was a crabby person, someone who most people didn't get along with the first time they spoke with her, but she at least knew not to start demanding things while someone else needed their time to talk. ]
You're a misguided faunus who wants to be respected but can't trust humans because of people like my father and Orihime. You've done a lot of bad things, but you haven't done them since you got here, and you're willing to work toward solving problems together, even if that meant working with me. I don't think it's that you don't belong here, it might just be that you haven't found a place yet.
[ Weiss goes to sit on the arm of the couch he's on, toward his feet. ]
I don't know you very well, but that's what I know so far and if Blake used to love you, then you can't be that terrible of a person at your core, no matter what terrible things you've done in the past. Blake has better taste than that.
[he suspected that pretty much summed up everything he had gone through so far in genessia. he hadn't done anything because he had been so alone, but now he didn't want to do anything because he knew it would upset blake so much. he still felt like he didn't know where he belonged, and he couldn't believe he was talking it over with a schnee.]
Hm.... I suppose she does. [but at least having someone else to talk to about this, and having frost there, helped him somewhat. he petted the dog as he talked with her.]
I thought about just forgetting, at one point. To just die again and forget this ever happened.... but I can't do that, I won't run away from things, that's not like me at all.
Just in case you do decide to forget something in the future, not that I'm endorsing it, you'll probably save yourself some trouble if you just open up an archway to somewhere instead of getting yourself killed.
[ That's at least helpful in the sense that she's not going to worry about him changing his mind and offing himself somehow. ]
[convincing. adam sat up now, looking at her directly, and he held frost close to his chest with one hand.]
Weiss- you can't say a thing, I currently have a truce with him. I promise not to tell anyone about him and he said he wouldn't go after Blake or any of her friends. I had specifically requested that, and I know he won't do it but... even so...
[ugh, this was so stupid.] ...He's working with the White Fang, too.
And you trust that he'll actually upkeep his end of that bargain?!
[ Because Weiss definitely didn't. She was seething now, teeth gritted together as she narrowed her eyes at Adam. It wasn't his fault, but she was pissed.
Frost could tell too, tucking his tail between his legs as he cuddled close to Adam. ]
[ Weiss seems to take the hint, trying to force herself to calm down by staying quiet for a few moments. Scaring Frost is not a good thing, and neither is getting ridiculously upset by this. ]
If you have any reason to believe that he'll attack us, tell me.
[ ..And suddenly, her original purpose in coming here seems a little more important. ]
And I want you to start training me. That's why I came over today, actually- I'm not strong enough and you're the strongest person I know who isn't some kind of demon or a teacher. I was going to leave it alone since you obviously aren't in the mood, and it doesn't have to be right now, but if Mercury is with the White Fang and I can't tell the rest of my team, I need to be able to fight well enough to make a difference if he does change his mind. It'll benefit you because you'll get to take some of your frustrations out on me because I don't expect you to go easy, as long as you don't kill me.
[he raised an eyebrow at that, looking a little confused. but... she did seem to really want that, and she went right to him of all people in order to get stronger. she had plenty of others she could ask- so he found it odd to confront him about this.
however, he had taught blake, he was good at teaching others how to fight properly.]
My training is rather difficult, can you manage that?
I'm going to school to become a huntress, I'm not going to have my life handed to me on a silver platter. If I can't handle everything you can put me through, I can't handle what I'll need to eventually. So I will manage- especially if I can't tell my team about Mercury.
[ And wander Frost will. Just generally all over Adam, then at some point tries to dig through the couch to China right at the corner of Adam's leg and the couch cushion. ]
[ Frost looked up at him confusedly when he grabbed his paws, then licked at his fingers. Weiss moved over to lightly pet Frost on the head, careful not to touch Adam. ]
[It had been a week or so since their spout with one another. The rest of their time had been silent without speaking with one another... Maybe that was better for him, if that's what he really wanted.
Either or, walking back from the library with her own ingredients for something at home, she picked up a rather warm bowl of egg drop soup, noodles with beef bits in it and seasoned a little spicy, variety of juices and custard buns for something sweet.
When she found herself at his door, she hesitated and knocked. First nothing. She leaned her ear to his door but then pulled away from her own fear of hearing things she had heard back in HQ whenever he might of had 'company' over.
Looking down the hallway then back, finding it rather remote, it felt like it was a good enough place to keep it at his door. So she knelt down and set it in front of it, arranging everything carefully. She didn't have to say write anything or let him know she did it, she just hoped he'd eat.
Pushing herself up, she gave one last small knock to his door before turning to go back down the hallway to the exit.]
[he had heard the first knock, but he hadn't responded. however he heard the shuffling from outside his door and he could only guess who that even was.
adam sighed and he left his kitchen to go over to the door. that was when she knocked a second time, and as she was walking away he opened up the door. he looked down the hall and saw blake just leaving, and he blinked a few times before he looked down and saw what she had left him.]
Hm.... at least it's not a homemade meal. [hers were always so horrible when they were growing up.... but he was grateful for this, despite how he reacted to it. she was right, he did forget to eat all the time, and now was no exception. she would obviously hear him, but he didn't know if she was going to stay around or not.]
[Stopping short of hearing the door open, near the opening of the stairs leading down and out, she stole a glance back over her shoulder at him curiously.] They weren't t hat bad. I've improved since then.
[So she'd like to believe. School wasn't exactly a culinary area to practice but the time she had left him prior to finally going TO Beacon, she spent learning how to fully take care of herself.
She returned from her shift at the library and was still dressed for the job.] Just had to make sure you were still eating and not wasting away.
[he frowned at the memory, not even wanting to go down that path again. as he knelt down to grab his food he looked over at her.... and at what she was wearing. she was gorgeous, seriously, and he was still kicking himself over not confessing to her sooner.
oh well, she's with someone better than him, that was good.]
Yeah well, you never ate so it was also partly punishment.
[Walking back over, the pointed in to the bag.] There's some extra in the containers that you can hopefully eat over the next few days if you don't feel like going out or making anything yourself. I also packed some extra bread since it's a rather good snack to have.
[She paused at his compliment and blinked curiously up at him before looking down at herself.] Oh..sorry, I was at work. I should of changed out of this thing.
They make us wear nice clothes for a place hardly no one comes in.
[uh huh.... food, food and more food. well, he still wasn't really in the mood to eat, but he would try. adam sighed and then stood up with the bag in hand. he nodded at her in silent thanks, not feeling up to talking much either.]
It suits you. [short, blunt, to the point. he would have come and visited her more, but now he knows that just isn't his place anymore. they have two very different paths to go down.]
[Tipping her head, she noticed he wasn't really saying much still. Even if it had been days since their talk and a bit longer from what happened in the forest...]
Have you been eating at all?
[If he's really going to distance himself from her then she can't stop him... It will hurt but- if that's what makes him happy and comfortable in the end.] Thank you.
[rarely, but he has been eating at least. adam looked away from her, not really wanting to speak much anymore.... but then he heard her ask how he was doing. he still had his mask on now, and it was obvious that he was going back to being overly quiet, anti-social, and just wanting to get his own mission done for his own sake.
yes, he was going back to being a monster indeed.]
Fine. [he frowned further.] ...it was the strangest thing, Weiss visited me the other day and asked me to train her. And the strangest par is I agreed to help her.
[too weird. he sighed.] So, if you are ever needing to hone your skills again, I suppose I'm doing sparring sessions now. Don't worry, I'm not using Dust. I have far too low of a supply as it is, and I don't want to run out.
[even if he does have it embedded in his clothes, in himself.]
[And Weiss didn't tell her that at all... She blinked only to glance away in thought. Of course, leave it to the real princess to calm him. But at the mention of sparring- it was something she should probably do to keep her skills up. She shouldn't really spend her time in the library and get rusty completely.
Giving a small nod at that, she stepped back away from him again, at least giving him his space.]
Mm, I'll keep that in mind then. [She would at least. Following through with it? That would be another thing...] I'll just uh- leave you to your food then.
well, he knew it was all she had ever done, and he had come to accept that she did that whenever she felt remotely uncomfortable. adam sighed, then he looked down and rummaged through the bag.]
Want to come inside? [she was still free to leave if she wanted, but he did want to establish a relationship with her again. she would be allowed to stay with him if she ever wanted or leave if she wanted. he was still in love with her, and he still wanted her to be okay. he just wanted to ask her what was wrong, but he doubted she would tell him.]
[As much as she wanted to her own thoughts were being her worst enemy again. Thoughts she lost the right to have.
She gave a small smile and shook her head.] Thank you but I should probably get back before it gets too late out.
[Which, was true. She at least wanted to get back before Frost decided it was okay to take her room and she had to sleep on the fridge top again.] Just make sure to eat this time.
[he nodded just a little at her words, understanding that she just wanted to leave. but he still didn't understand- if she kept wanting to run away, why did she keep coming to find him? why did she keep leaving him food and checking in on him?
he knew, of course. she obviously cared immensely about him still, but it seemed as though it was too hard to get back into any sort of proper rhythm again.]
..What's the matter, Blake? [he stared down at her from behind his mask, his frown deepening.]
Of course- you don't have to tell me anything. [by now, he's expecting it. she used to tell him everything, but now she's shut him out entirely with most things.]
[Getting either of them to say what was really on their minds was the most difficult thing in the world even after they confessed everything in the forest. It seemed those boundaries were up again and they were guarding themselves from one another.
But- maybe that was for the best. If Weiss could help him feel normal again then that was for the best. Her own presence there would just make things worse.
Shaking her head with another small smile to try and throw off his worry, she held up her hands.] It's nothing to worry over. You have enough going on that you need to focus on you. Take care of yourself first.
[...alright, she was still hurting- and she was still bothered, but she refused to tell him. that's fine, if she wanted to be that way then so be it.
adam grunted in response and nodded at her. he held up her bag a little as he spoke.]
Thank you for this, really. [she knew how bad he was at remembering to take proper care of himself. he would make a mental note to come and check up on her sometimes in the library too, if she would ever allow that of him.]
Go on back then, Blake. Your friends are probably waiting for you. [and sun, too.]
[With another small nod she watched him for a moment before taking another step back. It was hard to tell when another goodbye would lead to one of them never seeing one another again. Then again, it was probably something she deserved after what she had done back on the train car.
It still didn't make it hurt any less or the fear subside at the thought of leaving only to never see one another again.
She glanced up at the slits in his mask where she thought his eyes would be for a moment before casting her look back down. Unsure of what to even say no, she gave a small wave and turned to leave back down the hallway.]
voice;
[ She knows the "It's Weiss" portion of her message probably can be offset by the cute puppy portion. Hopefully. ]

...Why do you ask?

Just come over then. I don't care if you bring Frost. [yeah seriously, best of moods.]

[If he's really going to distance himself from her then she can't stop him... It will hurt but- if that's what makes him happy and comfortable in the end.] Thank you.
...How have you been.

Take care of yourself first.

adam grunted in response and nodded at her. he held up her bag a little as he spoke.]
Thank you for this, really. [she knew how bad he was at remembering to take proper care of himself. he would make a mental note to come and check up on her sometimes in the library too, if she would ever allow that of him.]
Go on back then, Blake. Your friends are probably waiting for you. [and sun, too.]
